The Porto Experience

Our second Sojourn in Porto, Portugal takes place this October.  We invite you to join us for an intimate gathering of world-class musicians and 150 music lovers in this historic coastal city, to enjoy 6 spectacular days of artistic collaborations along with surprising and delightful spontaneous musical moments in and around the city. 

The New Mastersounds, Steve Kimock, Rainbow Girls, Cris Jacobs, Steve Poltz & many more will lead their own sets and join in with others, culminating in a massive Everyone Orchestra super jam with Portuguese musicians to round out the week. Join us on this soulful journey of musical discovery and exploration!

Our home base for the week, The Hotel Mouco, is a playground for music aficionados. The hotel is home to a state of the art venue that will stage multiple performances throughout the week. Concerts will also be hosted in historic buildings and national monuments, a sunset boat cruise down the Douro River, and other extraordinary locations. We will expand our community by creating cross-cultural musical experiences with our Portuguese musician friends in Porto.



Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, Porto has blossomed into a cultural and artistic hub, effortlessly combining centuries of tradition with emerging artistic expression.  Porto’s working seaport is the backdrop for everything from port wine, historic buildings and fado, to a newer thriving Arts district, music festivals and culinary scene.

  • • All rates are per person.
    Payment Plan - A 50% payment is due at the time of booking.  An additional 25% is due by April 1, 2024.  The final 25% is due by July 1, 2024.  All payments shall be made by credit card. Declined payments must be rectified within 48 hours or be subject to a $35 Declined Payment Fee and, after three (3) days, possible cancellation.
    Cancellations & Refund Policy - All reservations are fully refundable for 24 hours after your initial booking. No refunds will be issued after August 1st, 2024. Cancellations after 24 hours and before August 1st will be subject to cancellation fees that increase as the trip gets closer. See our terms and conditions for the fee schedule. No refunds will be issued for those who do not show up to the event, regardless of reason. 
    Travel Insurance - This trip and event has a very strict cancellation policy and highly recommends that all guests purchase travel insurance. See our travel insurance section below for more details.
    Sojourn Postponement/Cancellation - If the sojourn is postponed, you will have the option to rollover your registration or to receive a refund. If the event is cancelled and not rescheduled, you will receive a refund.

  • The airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) and is 12 miles from our home base at Hotel Mouco.

    • Check-in is at 3 pm on Monday, October, 7.

    • Checkout is at 12 pm on Sunday, October 13.

    Music will start at 7 pm pm on October 7 and continue through Saturday, October 12. There will be no music programming on Sunday, October 13.

    • Your passport must be valid for 6 months after your travel dates.

    TIPS

    • Porto is an easily walkable city with many hills and has a good public transport system that includes old wooden trams, a metro and buses.

    • Portugal doesn’t require a visa for tourists staying less than 90 days

    • Ride shares such as Uber as well as Taxis are widely available at the airport and in Porto. There is also bus service, and public transport by metro is excellent.

    • All major US credit cards are accepted in Porto.

    • For guests arriving from the US, electrical outlets will need an adapter.

    • The tap water in Porto is safe to drink and of course can be used for cooking, bathing, etc and meets all EU regulations. Porto's water supply is very heavy in minerals and, as chlorine is added at the treatment plant, it can have a strong taste.

    • October is a great time to visit Porto as the weather is temperate (70°F/50°F) and at the many wineries, grape harvest is in full swing.

  • Travel insurance is not included in A Musical Sojourn in Porto price. We recommend that you purchase insurance and recognize you have many options of providers. We have identified a value-aligned company called Wanderwell.

    Each year there have been people who have needed to cancel for a wide variety of reasons, so we highly recommend it. While travel insurance can be purchased just about any time prior to your departure, with most trip protection-style travel insurance plans, the sooner you purchase a policy - in relation to the date of the - the more the policy can cover. It is generally wise to purchase a trip protection-style travel insurance policy within two weeks of making your initial trip payment of any kind, and prior to making your final major trip payment pre-departure.

  • Packages are priced per person and range from $3,600 to $5,100 based on occupancy. All prices are in US Dollars with no additional fees added.

    You have the option to pay in full or enter a payment plan. The payment plan requires a 50% payment due at the time of booking. An additional 25% is due by March 1, 2024.  The final 25% is due by July 1, 2024.

  • Yes, there is a place on the booking site to split the cost with your travel mate.

    Financial responsibility can also be split after the reservation is booked.

    All attendees are required to have an account in our registration system and you will be able to split the cost with another registered guest.

  • You can expect to cover your own expenses for anything not included in your travel package. This includes airfare, local ground transportation, additional meals, shopping, and alcohol. Note: Most of our venues are walking distance from our HQ and Uber in Porto is inexpensive and very safe and reliable.

  • An account is your personal profile.

    You need an account in order to book your reservation and everyone attending will need an account in order to check in.

    You can update your reservation, make payments, add or change your guest, find the Event’s Terms & Conditions, and more through your account

  • This is a community event and by design we want everyone to stay at our home base and partner hotels. If you have a special request to stay elsewhere during the event, please contact us at info@musicalsojourns.com and we will address on a per case basis.

  • The event is generally programmed for adults, but it is open to anyone age twelve or older. Children under twelve may attend only with the express consent of EO Worldwide. Regardless of age, all participants are required to have a valid passport

  • The Musical Sojourn will be in compliance with local guidelines regarding masking and vaccinations and we will comply with any requirements imposed by Porto or Portugal's governments. No refunds will be given to guests who wish to cancel their trip over concerns over Covid-19. We recommend that guests purchase travel insurance to protect the cost of their trip.

    If the sojourn is postponed you will be given the opportunity to roll your reservation to the next event or cancel for a refund. If the event is cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, your purchase will be refunded.
